Why Proper Attic Ventilation and Insulation Is Critical
Many of our customers ask “why do you need to look in my attic?”
Proper attic ventilation and insulation is critical!
The truth is 50% of your roof is comprised of the underside of the roof. A roof’s performance is largely predicated on ventilation, both intake and exhaust.
See our pictures gallery at our website under Residential Roofing. Oftentimes we inspect the attic and find insufficient insulation. If there exists insulation, many times it runs all the way to the end of the attic and is clogging airflow from the soffit into the attic. This can be prevented by installing inexpensive baffles found at all big box stores. If there is not enough insulation, the contractor can notify the customer who can then add insulation and save on utility bills.
Next, an attic inspection is critical before giving an estimate or starting the work as most often deteriorated decking can be observed. This is important because it allows the contractor to give an accurate bid to replace the bad decking and the customer time to budget money for the replacement instead of being surprised with the added cost the day the old roof is removed. While there are many additional reasons for an attic inspection, this short list will help you determine if your roofer is qualified by them asking to inspect your attic and will save you from many surprise expenses during the re-roofing process.
